Mental Health Treatment Center is designated by Sacramento County as a 5150 facility and is comprised of two major programs:
 
Crisis Stabilization Unit: The Crisis Stabilization Unit functions as a psychiatric emergency room for individuals brought in by emergency responders such as law enforcement or local acute care emergency rooms. Individuals are also self-referred or brought in by outpatient service providers or family members. Dispositions include referral to outpatient services, diversion to another psychiatric facility (for those insured or out-of-county), or admission to the MHTC
 
 
Inpatient Unit. (Certified by the State Department of Mental Health to provide crisis stabilization services up to 23 hours)Inpatient Unit: The Inpatient Unit provides hospitalization for individuals requiring psychiatric stabilization who present as a danger to self, others or gravely disabled. Hospitalization is a last resort when less restrictive treatment options such as outpatient care are not deemed sufficient. (Licensed by the State Department of Mental Health as a 100-bed Psychiatric Health Facility)

The goal of PSM SERVICE is to provide psychiatric consultation and liaison to the medical and surgical teams, diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology and behavioral problems in the general hospital and clinic patient population, assisting and educating the medical and surgical teams to deal with challenging reactions to patients, and creating new knowledge in consultation-liaison psychiatry.

Dr. David Gellerman The Mental Health Consultation-Liaison Service (MH CLS) provides psychiatric consultations to non-psychiatrist physicians, including assessment of psychopathology and behavioral problems and recommendations for treatment, in the inpatient medical-surgical wards as well as the outpatient and Urgent Care Center settings.
